Things you should know about your coming project

Over the years, we have heard just about every question customers ask when discussing their project. This list was compiled to assist you in answering some of the most common questions.

What are some of the signs that let me know I may need a new roof?

Some key signs are easily noticed. Curling, cracking and splitting are common problems with most asphalt roofing systems such as shingles. These conditions may indicate the life of the roof has reached its end. Also, excesive granuale loss exposes the fiberglass mat to the elements and accelerates shingle deterioration. Obviously leaks and stained walls and cielings are indications that a problem exists. There are many more signs that a roof needs replacement and it would be immpossible to list them all here. Please contact us if you have any doubts about the condition of your roof.

Will you call us before you start?

Not always. While efforts are made to keep everyone informed as to our schedule, we often will show up without advance prior notice. Many things impact our schedule such as: - Weather - Type of work - Job size -Crew size -Location Many times jobs will be started in the middle of the day when people are at work. Often our efforts to contact customers ahead of time fall short. If you have a special request about our schedule, however, we will try to work with you.

Will there be any extra charges?

Possibly. It is sometimes impossible to determine every condition on your project. This is especially true when it comes to the replacement of rotten or deteriorated wood. You may incur extra necessary charges to replace rotted wood. Building codes and good craftsmanship practices require that any rotted wood be replaced. Your contract identifies prices for these necessary repairs.

What about my yard?

Will you damage the grass, shrubs or driveway? Like many other construction projects, there is a lot of heavy equipment needed and a lot of debris handled. It is impossible to guarantee that the yard or driveway will not be affected. We will be careful but some damage could occur.

Does someone need to be home while your workmen are at my house?

No. Access to electricity is required. Otherwise, we are fully equipped to complete your project without your being there. Remember, this is noisy work; you may not want to be there.

When is payment due?

Refer to your contract for payment terms. Typically there is a 25% downpayment. Upon completion we request the balance of the contract plus any change orders, such as rotten wood replacement. Large jobs generally require additional draws.

How many workers will be doing my project?

Depending on how complicated the job is our crew size varies from one to ten workers.

My roof is being torn off and replaced. Will I experience any leakage during the project?

We are very careful when doing complete roof replacements. It is impossible however, to absolutely guarantee that no leaks will occur during construction. The weather in Florida is very unpredictable and sometimes leaks cannot be avoided. We will not tear off the roof and leave it completely unprotected. We will always install new felt underlayment or some other type of protection before we stop for the day. In most cases this is all that is needed.

Do I need to be concerned about the contents of my house?

Roofing is hard work. Vibration that occurs during the construction project cannot be avoided. If you have concern about wall hangings or any other items, it is best to remove them. Also, it is a good idea to protect items in the attic and ensure nothing is touching the underside of the roof deck.

If I want to add some work to my original contract, can I just inform the foreman to proceed?

Our workmen are instructed not to do any unauthorized additional work. Please contact our office or your sales representative immediately and we will make every effort to comply with your request. This is important for your protection as well as ours.
